Hello folks,
Microsoft, one of our big companies, is announcing that on April 25th of this year, it will stop supporting twitter on its advertisement platform.
Other named companies are listed within this article, some of them I’ve not heard of.
The Mashable article does remind us that the starting price for Twitter API access was starting at $42,000 a month and this article says that they’re going to completely shut off the old API on April 29th.
Back in early March I blogged and asked the question of whether people knew how much this API was going to cost. I also blogged about the February 9th sunset of the API which was later pushed back till after the superbowl.
I even found an article about the loss of bots which was blogged too.
This is not looking good. Between the advertising and the loss of major services like the national weather service, there is nothing more i can say.
I’ll be telling DLVR at some point to remove my twitters from my account and leave Linked In and this Mastodon.
I’ve tried to space out the blog posts so I don’t take up the public timeline, but at the same time, I am going to read stuff anyway, so why not have things I’m subscribed to post anyway?
Remember this blog where I praised Massachusetts for coming forward and asking questions? As far as I’m aware, they have not responded to that either.
We recently have learned that Twitter is then going to be more like a blogging platform at 10,000 characters for paid members?
I have this blog as part of my domain, no additional charge.
If you want to read more about the Microsoft decision on ditching twitter, read this Mashable article titled Microsoft drops Twitter from its advertising platform which came across my Mastodon.
We’ll see how long twitter lasts after April 29th’s deadline whether I do what I am blogging I might do or not. Its all up in the air right now and I’m not making any fast decisions.
