An update on the Microsoft renaming convention for actor groups

I blogged about Microsoft renaming these groups we now know like Sandstorm and others.

I came across a very intresting thought piece by Cyber Security reporter Andy Greenberg who writes for Wired. The article Hacker Group Names Are Now Absurdly Out of Control with the next line “Pumpkin Sandstorm. Spandex Tempest. Charming Kitten. Is this really how we want to name the hackers wreaking havoc worldwide?”

I found this article quite interesting and cpomical but probabbly going to be a problem. Its not Andy’s fault I wrote it this way, but I know these folks by the old names, I’m never going to remember that they’ve been renamed and Andy has a great point on the confusion that will happen now.

I just had to pass this along.
