How many of us with me included have downloaded a program, found toolbars and things we never asked for and need to remove them? I said I have, but it seems to be back now as Kim Komando in her newsletter are talking about this again.
There are 6 different types of software that could be included within software, especially if it is free software. Paid software may have these types of software included, but most of the time I’d say not. Here are the types of software.
- Adware: This software displays unwanted advertisements on your device, usually pop-ups or banners.
- Toolbars: Toolbars are browser add-ons that often come bundled with the software. They typically add extra features or shortcuts to the browser but can also slow down the browser or collect your data.
- Browser extensions: These are like toolbars but are more integrated into the browser and can provide additional features.
- Trial software: Some software packages may include a trial version of another software program, hoping you’ll eventually purchase the full version.
- Bloatware: This software is unnecessary for you to use the program, but it is included anyway, often to provide additional functionality you probably don’t need.
- Tracking software: Some software may include tracking software that collects data on your behavior, such as browsing history, search queries, or other personal information.
As someone who uses assistive technology, some of these can be a problem, while others may be more annoying.
I’m not too sure about tracking software per see, they only track what you’re doing and it is something that I’m concerned about. You could probably find software like this in your add rempove program list.
Bloatware may also be something you can find as removable software. As for trial software, they definitely are in the add remove programs as it is just another piece of software.
All of these things are installed after the main program you’re seeking is installed. As for toolbars and extensions, they’ll modify your browser of choice, and you’ll have to remove them through your browser of choice.
As for adware, I don’t know exactly how to get rid of it. This reminds me of the old days of software, this article is written on the 9th of June though which is today.
The article is titled Stop! This mistake is loading your device with adware and trackers! and may be worth the read.
I know that this may be more for PC users than mobile users, but mobile should also be aware of what’s going on in case they are asked about these things.
Thanks for reading, make it a great day!
