Sonos possibly to become inaccessible?

I actually read this blog from Jonathan Mosen, a respected advocate of software and accessibility.

He wrote the CEO of Sponos to ask questions and he did not respond to anything.

Now its time to act.

Like Jonathan, I also got emailed about their new application which is to come out on Tuesday. I’ve already got automatic updates turned off, and I did find the option not to have my device update.

This is something I don’t recommend people do, but based on the blog I’m about to link to, we really don’t have a choice and that’s too bad.

We always talk about keeping software updated, but this update looks more likely to break what we’ve come to know and love.

Instead of tabs across the bottom, they’ve designed the app to be all on one screen, and they even have a web version if I understood what I was reading.

It appears Sonos is about to become less useable by screen reader users. The CEO should stop it now, but here’s how to protect your investment if he doesn’t is Jonathan Mosen’s blog, and we should voice loud and clear by not updating our devices until they show people who are advocating that they mean business.

For a full report, read the accompanying blog linked above. I’ve thought about this, and seeing this again reminded me that this is sadly what we need to do.

I’ve only got one speaker that I inherrited and it works well for me now. I’m keeping it that way.
