While the email in question has been deleted, I never share personal information by email anymore.
In collaboration with Sendspace I can upload a bank statement for someone to download, print out, and send with paperwork they assisted me filling out.
While this would be a bank statement, it is still sensitive, and as we know, email by its nature is not secure.
Even though we’re using SSL for incoming and outgoing connections to the server, email is still inherently not secure for sending this type of thing.
I am hopeful that the employee will receive training, and that it was truly accidental.
This isn’t the first time data has been spilled from Merrill Lynch, I believe is this company whose going by Merrill in this article, but please do not quote me on this.
