my journey to IOS 18.0.1

The experience I’m about to share is only my own. I invite yours, and we’ll see how that goes.

On this past week’s TSB, we talked about the idea of upgrading software and why it was a good idea to do so.

I’m not saying for one minute in this blog post that upgrading is going to be a perfect experience, because with IOS 18’s initial release there were issues that even could have impacted the community I may serve.

So while I was posting the podcast yesterday, I told my phone to upgrade to 18.0.1 so that I may be as up to date as possible. Yes, i was running 17.7, but we know that 17.x could be not getting updates at any time at apple’s discretion.

While I was upgrading, I scheduled this blog post and also did a little bit of other stuff too.

When my phone was done, I noticed that it was stuttering quite a bit, and I figured a reboot was also needed. I did this even though the phone had already done it as part of the upgrade process.

Well, this didn’t fix it, as the voice I was using, (Siri 1) basicly turned in to a static machine which couldn’t be used.

My phone became hot, and it was unusable.

Figuring I should change voices, I selected a few, but nothing I’m really liking because of my slight hearing impairment in both ears.

While I use Eloquence on the PC with Jaws, the phone doesn’t really have the volume I may need. I tried other voices with little success.

Herbie Allen, someone I’ve known for many years finally responded to my message from the morning, and said I aught to remove the voice and put it back.

I did this, and it worked for a little while, then became its staticky self again. I sent this to Herbie while recoring a voice message and he will be looking in to this for me.

This was quite interesting because I never heard the voice do what this thing did, and while I can send the message to an email address, getting it converted is not something I think I can do.

My honest opinion was that I thought my phone was cooked, and I was going to have to get another one. It was working great till the upgrade, so why just quit? I had reservations of going to the apple store to have them downgrade the phone back to 17.7 but then the new passwords app would have trouble.

Now, at least, I have eloquence running and the phone seems to be behaving itself today.

Thanks for leaving your feedback but I thought I’d share my opinion of what happened to me and say that this was the first I’ve had such issues like that one before.

See everyone soon!
