Ever got in to a pickle where you looked up instructions and got what you thought was a step by step guide. Maybe it isn’t that guide altogether.
According to Kim Komando, this is bad. Very bad. What is now being called Scam Yourself, these attacks are up 614 percent.
That is according to statisstics for the third quarter alone.
Which major stealer has also shot up as part of this article? Its called Lumma Stealer. It was up 1154 percent. This particular thing is now being used to steal banking details without you having to do much.
How this gets started is a fake captcha. Those captchas we have to utalize from time to time but these are on a page of themselves. Once solved, the page may redirect you to somewhere else.
If the page asks you to download the readme file which are usually text or html files, that’s where you get bit. A legitimate site including Kim’s will have the step by step instructions right there.
If you use Youtube, look at the description. If you are to download something, this could in theory be a problem.
Another issue is copying code. Some sites may want you to copy code. The code would be copied in to something called the command prompt. This could be dangerous.
Kim has information about how to protect yourself from these types of things.
- Think twice before downloading
- Check URLs and sources of info
- be careful what you copy and paste
- update the right way
There are things after each one, so just be careful on what you are up to.
Don’t fall for it! Hackers are trying to get you to scam yourself is the article.
Be aware! Be safe!
