TikTok to pay a $10 million fine

The country of Venezuela and its top court late last year is asking to have TikTok pay a $10 million fine for 3 apparent deaths due to challenges that were followed by children on the popular application.

Whether Bytedance will pay the fine is beyond this blog, but this again, shows why TikTok just needs to be banned.

According to the recent reports I’ve heard, the question on whether the 75 day executive order president Trumped put in place was questioned. But if TikTok is that much of a security threat where it tracks people whether they use the app or not, the challenges they claim are just free speech, or any other argument they want to come up with, this just proves thaat it isn’t a safe application to be on.

From the article

Judge Tania D’Amelio said TikTok had acted in a negligent manner and gave it eight days to pay the fine, while also ordering the video service company to open an office in Venezuela that would supervise content so that it complies with local laws.

In November, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro blamed TikTok for the death of a 12-year-old girl who allegedly died after participating in a TikTok challenge that involved taking tranquilizer pills and not falling asleep.

Venezuela’s Education Minister Hector Rodriguez also said last month that a 14-year-old died after taking part in a TikTok challenge that involved sniffing substances. And on Nov. 21, Venezuela’s attorney general blamed video challenges on TikTok for the death of a third child.

The article tontinues on talking about blocking Twitter, now known as X, and while independent ISP companies unblocked them, the state owned company has not.

Again, this is a bit older, but TikTok is not really feeling the pressures of its missteps and seems to get away with a bunch of crap we couldn’t in other countries.
