In a bad move, Icloud will not be encrypted in the UK for new users

For those who turned on the option called ADP, you will soon be told to turn it off. But for new users, its worse. This is because apple is complying with the order to turn this off in this country.

As the article states, with the various breaches we have today, end to end encryption is needed now more than ever.

This is absolutely crazy, and Apple should not need to be forced to the UK’s aweful demands where the government can look at their citizens data without concent by the customer, a court, or even apple.

Apple pulls iCloud end-to-end encryption feature in the UK is the article if one wants to read it.

For those in the UK, I’d be interested in your thoughts in this.

  1. Hmmm.
This has been about for ages.
Encryption is good, but if you are bad governments and the forces need to get round it.
    Turn it off?
Well again if there is a way for the cops to get access to it for their reasons then well thats just life.
The issue would be abuse of the systems.
I mean if the hackers know governments can access this stuff they would go after them and lets face it thats always a battle right there.
I have a love hate tthing with encription anyway.
Ie ms, new users get it automatically.
What if you don’t want it, and with all the bitlocker issues from time to time.
I had a server I was working on a couple years back.
All encrypted, all working, everything happy go lucky.
Then the main drive board died or one of the cards and things went bang.
    Ok, recover the drive.
Get your backups and you are ok.
Trouble was all tied to a card which doesn’t work no more and not exactly updated either.
    Result, your data is encrypted.
    Fine.
But your key device just exploded.
    You’re fucked!!!!!
The user managed to go to a hacker who had to physically hack the system.
They did work for the cops so they could do that.
Luckily the data was not lost but it was left in a huge mess.
While I believe in encryption to some extent, email, address, name, a few bits and bobs if something goes wrong then you may be up shit creek.
At any rate, my address, name, day of birth and most other information is on public record.
My bank info yeah maybe thats worth protecting but just about everything else is probably in a database somewhere.
I am a pre borg, or rather I knew a time before I was assimilated so while it probably doesn’t match I still feel drawn to the times before this stuff started.
