This next story goes in to the “you have to be fucking kidding me department” as powerSchool gets extorted a second time

I can’t necessarily blame PowerSchool for this, only because as we have said in this industry, you’re damned if you do and you’re damned if you don’t.

Recent news coming out of Bleeping Computer and The CyberWire indicate that PowerSchool got hit again not by another ransomware attack, but an actor who claimed to have ddleted the data after getting paid coming back for more.

PowerSchool itself didn’t get extorted, but the very school districts that were pilfered from the December/January attack.

The basis of this article talks about the fact that they paid the ransom thinking that the actor(s) would follow through and delete their data.

Some months later, they now are turning around and going after the very districts they took data from. This includes the 62 plus million children and the 9.5 million teachers.

It isn’t like the actors just got paid for the fact they pilfered the company with no security anyway.

I guess it really didn’t matter which way this went, because PowerSchool could’ve decided not to pay and the same thing was to happen.

While I would love to go off on the whole thing, I’m resolved at the fact that the company will assist everyone, although credit monitoring for children is probably not going to solve anything let alone the adults.

PowerSchool hacker now extorting individual school districts is our article. Thanks so much for listening, reading and learning with us!
