Hi all.
Well 60 percent on win11 usage and going up.
This is most likely all the enterprises holding out on upgrading rather than users.
Eventually there will be the lower loads left but I suspect its the fear about update and support droppage than actual users moving up by choice.
An interesting article popped off from neonet about an artest designing concepts for a possible vision of windows.
In this latest a classic one with the ability to use all themes and desktops and bits of each for your installation.
I mean the interface is number1 on the list for me.
And the stability of the shell.
So yeah I guess if I could choose my interface windows classic, maybe a 10 style start with the normal 10 desktop and such.
Choose schemes and the like, how my shell behaved with the menu system and no ribbons, what features I used, etc and full customisation over what I have that would be a push up for me, I mean linux do it.
If it was only an updated kernal and extra security, added plugins and maybe a few other things, services, ideas, etc maybe I’d concidder the change and do it frequently.
So the big issue with microsoft is whenever they put a new version out they try to wow the market by adding extras in and reinventing the wheel multiple times.
Its unsettled me and probably a load of others.
Every system change is a new and wanderfull one.
Windows 3.1 to win95, bigg change.
Win 95 to 98, little change.
Meanwhile the nt based boxes, 2000 and vista, hmmm.
Xp, hmmm, after that win 7 a few changes but still ok.
8, well eventually.
10, ok.
11, well to many ideas and a bunch of stuff.
A lot of layoffs and other stuff are going about to.
Then there is the strict requirements.
Now for at least half of us unless we are using like 6th and lower generation cpus or haven’t had the need to update from that 7th to 9th gen for any reason well thats that.
My dad ran a 4th gen till it finally broke after 20 years and is using a 10th.
I used many systems till they outgrew me.
This ryzen 2nd gen hasn’t really grown me out.
I can see myself on a new ultra, core5 a 11th, or 12th gen cpu or even an amd 5th to 7th gen cpu maybe with a graphics card and maybe with extra stuff, for round 2k or there abouts but it will have to last me a while.
Meanwhile this old box continues to last me.
For what I use I am seriously thinking about just pushing an update of windows to 11 and leaving it there.
On the other hand maybe I need to cleaninstall the box as I have not done it in a number of years with the upgrade.
Then again I don’t know.
The system has floorlessly worked and there are to many bugs with the subsystems of windows 11 for me to trust it completely.
At least ms are fixing the menus now but there is still a load to do.
It would be nice if there was a user list or forum for windows that microsoft frequented and actually heard our constructive concerns though.
We want the interface to become stable.
Windows 10 had that interface, use that as an example.
We like the classic interface at least some of us geeks have so maybe have that as an option and maybe other os interfaces, I mean linux does it.
The windows 10 shell was ok but maybe a more stable shell would be nice.
Go back to where you were before 10 and ask yourself where all the bugs started to become a big story and work up from there.
We users would be happier if we didn’t see multiple unstable releases to be honest it doesn’t make us feel comfortable I don’t know about you but for me it doesn’t.
I am a system admin and its my job to install stuff including extras so a user doesn’t see an error.
This weekend I installed extra codecguide recommended codecs to the systems and cleared out bits of old conversion systems from my box just to streamline opperations.
At the end of the day us users want to use our systems for what we brought them for and not deal with bugs regularly or as
regularly as we have seen.
Now obbviously bugs exist but thats just life.
Do us a favour and cut back on the performance drama if you can.
The cloud stuff is another thing.
I don’t see any reason to use your service for backups when I can do multi coppies on drives which I can access without a connection.
Anyway I don’t want every file I have on your system.
My settings and accounts, sure.
If I pay for it certain photos, documents and maybe my own created contents.
No, I don’t want all my music and programs and possible stuff I have in my spare time, after all no one is a saint, me included.
I have files which are technically alegal, but I only use them for me and nothing else.
If I back them up on your servers there could be a problem so I don’t.
And if I get locked out for some reason that I am not aware of then what.
Then your support is semi questionable at best and potentially damaging at worst.
You have no idea how much trouble I had trying to fix an issue which turned to be a bugg and resulted in a rebuild due to well you making it worse.
I could have skurted about the error till it was fixed or just done without it insecure as that could be but still I would have a working system.
On the other side since 2020 I haven’t fiddled with the system as I once did and to be honest I may never do that again unless I decide to once more.
I have an actual life now so its not like I can just go do that anyway.
My box has been stable for the last 5 or so years.
And blow if I will destabelise it again by upgrading my os to a potentially busted one.
At least you guys have the sence to have 10 systems on the update esu program.
