Hi all.
Before we start, you may notice that the text has been revised.
This is because thunderbird and adobe had update revisions.
Please note to admins.
3 spam comments were trashed this morning after I returned from vacation.
Yesterday was patch day for all systems.
I won’t list everything that appeared, but google, mozilla dropbox and microsoft had updates to their software.
Adobe also had 2 updates and one of these was released today.
Firefox 145 and now thunderbird 145 are out.
Unsure why there was a delay but oh well.
Also zoom didn’t update either.
For those using windows, issues with the update extender are now fixed as are the issues with weird task manager issues and taskbar behaviours.
Right now, the update patches are still in the catalog meahing you potentially can download them I guess manually.
For devs out there dotnet 10 stable is now out so download that and update your files.
A note that all users will need initial versions on all systems.
A note, on windows 10 while you can get the lib any fixes will not be supplied for it or anything else unless I assume secure but they will appear on the site so if you need to you can download them I guess.
There is an interesting article loadout from an x ms enginier about the servicing modle of windows 11 to read online and it may be worth it for users to read.
I never got this one, but its come out unofficially that the cryptolocker being pushed automatically to users is and will cause more harm than good.
I have stated many times that forcing things on users is not a good thing.
And the way its going it will get worse.
Keep your system updated and backed up and make sure you have multiple coppies of your data so when the system fails to login at least you can reinstall.
Lets hope that the multiple reformats and wipes users do to fix their systems every time things go out of sync will eventually lead to legal action and force microsoft to be reasonable they don’t seem to respond to anything else
The holiday can be found in my blog.
I am playing expantion packs to games and generally mucking about.
The trip was good.
It didn’t rain and that was good.
I did some cave exploration learning about what various places were used for and other cultural things.
I also explored more gardens and had food, mucked with friends.
I then moved to a city that was prity much a tropical island feel.
All good but it was time to return.
I will be back to the grindstone now.
Everything is done at least and I should be back to what I was doing.
Of extra interest, bit warden, and 1 password passkeys and some other managers are natively supported.
It appears that big companies and such have driven this.
Also, there is an interesting article on the tidbits mag about the supposed quality of microsoft support.
I’m not ranting on here but you all know my opinion after several experiences.
Basically, the quality doesn’t exist and my support was destructively poor.
I would have done better if I had just reformat, reloaded, and waited for another patch to be honest.
In all but 1 or 2 times, the issue was eventually patched but I lost data and time, mostly time as I keep good backups.
If there is a problem, I will contact users, followed by hiding it till its fixed.
If it is unable to be fixed, I will reformat and reinstall because thats what ms support does.
If after all that fails and if the issue hasn’t gone and if after throwing my computer out the window and then committing suicide and selling my soul to hell then I will contact support because it couldn’t get much worse than that.
Bottem line, I’m not touching support, they are toxic and worse I don’t trust them.
Being hit 3 or 4 times by the entry level techs doesn’t work well.
If it ever hits hq and enginiering then yeah that does work.
My issue for office for example went to its source solver, a chinese or asian bloke that couldn’t fix it but did manage to get it fixed within the time he specified.
I have had a couple early support runs which have worked.
The latest couple have told me that if I can get away with getting the issue off my box without resorting to contacting microsoft at all then I can avoid 99.9% of trouble.
I do not trust them.
I mean a user list at least is better responding.
Office has just had extra updates for 365 online only.
Also edge on 11 had an out of banned update or at least it appears to be that.
Codecguide had a minor update and thats pritty much that.
Its been reported on several lists now mainly the nvda one that installing 24h2 and 25h2 windows first 2 screens after install runs are not accessible and that microsoft support are aware of this.
