Detroit hospitals now hit, what else is next?

According to an article on Cyberscoop that is dated today, Detroit’s hospital network is next to get hit. With the ever growing problems we’re having, it seems like cyber actors are not relenting at their games.

While the number is only around 100,000 people, thats still 100,000 more than it needs to be. If it were an accident, and someone clicked, that would be one thing, and I forgive the person who clicked because there is quite a lot out there. Problem is, this is becoming the new normal.

Beaumont Health, a network of eight hospitals through the Detroit area, said in a letter Friday that “an unauthorized third party” accessed names, birth dates, Social Security numbers and medical conditions about some 112,000 people.

To boot, the first publication to report on this to my knowledge according to the article was the Detroit Free Press. Hackers may have made off with drivers licenses, bank accounts information, and who knows what else they may have gotten.

You know what else the problem is? The problem is that this was done last year, and its only coming out now. My first question is whether or not people who were effected ever found out by the agency, or are they finding out now through articles and other media that reports on this?

There must be a way for us to be aware of this by the agency effected within a certain amount of time. Why are we only finding out about this now?

Read more from cyberscoop: Detroit hospital network says data breach affected more than 100,000 patient accounts is the article, and I’m sure this won’t be the final on this type of case.

With the ever growing Covid-19 cases with California and Michigan swapping spots within the last few hours, we’ve got enough to worry about. How much worse can this get? Luckily, this took place before the pandemic, but still, this is beyond repair by now. This will only get worse as this pandemic grows.
