Russia’s president says that his infrastructure at risk

Hello all, happy March. I’m going to try and do some catchup today, and I’ve got the perfect article to start out the first day in March.

It looks like the president of Russia and his government are concerned about their infrastructure when it comes to cyberattacks. Did it take someone to tell Mr. President that he may have a problem since he thinks that it is ok for him to attack other infrastructure?

I am not going to condone this, but if I do find out through sources that Russia’s infrastructure was tampered with, I’m probably going to say that I told you so.

The Russian government warned its domestic critical infrastructure operators Thursday of the “threat of an increase in the intensity of computer attacks,” and said that any failure in the operation of critical infrastructure that doesn’t have a “reliably established” cause should be considered “the result of a computer attack.”

The warning, issued through Russia’s National Computer Incident Response & Coordination Center, comes as the Russian military carries out a widespread attack on Ukraine, and after the Ukrainian government accused the Russians of launching a series of distributed denial-of-service attacks and the deployment of wiper malware on Ukrainian government systems ahead of the invasion.

The warning did not specify where such attacks might come from.

While this article is several days old, I’m not going to be surprised if at some point in the near future that type of attack starts.

We already know that anonymous has done some defacement of Russia’s web sites. Do I condone that? No. But of course, I don’t know who they are, and they don’t necessarily try to harm anyone, just out there to cause some havoc. They seem to be more of a fly than what Russia is capable of.

The full article from Cyberscoop is titled Putin’s government warns Russian critical infrastructure of potential cyberattacks and you should take a look at it.

Make your own decision on what’s going on. We’re only providing the info and our own thoughts.
