Welcome to National cyber security awareness month, also known as NCSAM.
Week 1 is going to cover the dos and donts on passwords.
As we say, nobody here is perfect. This is not going to be calling anyone out, this is to educate ourselves on what people are saying we should do.
One thing they say is not to use passwords that are simple like qwerty1234 or even your name or something to do with you. Why? Because your name is everywhere, and with the amount of breaches we’ve had just this year alone, your info is completely out there.
Well, what should I do you ask? If you’re not in to something called a password manager, you could in theory use symbols for letters or even do something completely different with something you know.
On our resources page we’ve got companies that might be able to help. Some may offer password managers, but we don’t claim to know or even list all of them. Lastpass is a good one, although they have been in the news for the wrong reasons, but again, no company is going to be perfect.
If you don’t like Lastpass, there is Trend Micro, One Password, Keypass and many others. Find the one that works best for you. Some are free, some are free to try and some are just paid with no trial.
If you’ve got ideas you want to share on your password ideas, please let us know. Please don’t share your passwords!
We’ll go more in debt on our podcast to have a discussion, but we’ll post this to get the blog going.
