Hi all.
Well todays updates were a bit scattered but here we go.
Expect more.
Note, some of this stuff will be duplicatted from other locations.
- firefox 140 and the 140 esr lts release came out.
141 beta1 is released so the cycle has restarted for the next month or so.
Thunderbird has yet to release but 140b3 was the last out and nothing has happened for the last 2-3 days which indicates that an iminant release is probable.
Dropbox 127 has been aired.
I wasn’t sure if that would go to a beta or a release but its late and has.
Google chrome has released, edge will follow in the next few days.
This is a major release so check your components after updating just in case.
Remember about:components for that.
Windows 10 has released updates to the interface and such to bring it in line with eu requirements.
This means whenever you change your default brouser you will be changing pdf viewing as well.
In addition you will have pinned icons on task and start menu to remove meaning yet again that microsoft doesn’t want you to change though they may have been forced into this one possibly who can tell.
Office 365 had an out of banned update yesterday.
Recall is being updated in win11 with a lite version as well but who knows about how much privacy that will be breaching.
I mean if you use the thing and find it good fine.
I for myself am keeping the ai which invades your data away from it.
Windows store has had major app updates for just about everything, the big change is that windows store will tell you what it manages, etc in all windows flavours 10 and up.
I am unsure exactly why this is a thing.
I wander if third parties like manufacturers could use the streamlined system?
If so then thats one reason to use store.
A note that some stuff has changed in shell.
If you use ribbon disablers or other shell hacks you will have to run them after this update for 10, 11 is not effected.
A bunch of other stuff has changed there to.
Last but least, windows 10 1 year extended release program will be coming next month.
Pay 30 bucks, backup all your stuff to onedrive, or have 1000 rewards points off your ms account.
I doubt anyone will have option 3.
I wouldn’t recommend people backing anything up to ms cloud service after that sillyness last week though.
I wouldn’t even use onedrive.
On the chance you do use onedrive though and do backup things, then you can use windows 10 for another year.
Next is the 30 dollar payment which I will probably go for.
However of interesting note, rumors are appearing from out of the net suggesting that your cpu not in requirements will probably work which makes me wander what microsoft is pushing at.
If you have tpm2.0, 8-16gb ram, and at least an intel 8th gen cpu you may be ok.
Some on 7th gen have updated but its not exactly recommended but still if its just cpu you mmay force the update.
If you use rufus you may be able to turn off most of the extras for account, etc.
There are rumors to wait for 25h2 so what that means is anyone’s guess.
Finally it appears that windows update will be clearing old drivers which has been a problem for at least a decade pluss.
I have no idea what I will do for my new system.
At the end of the day though its probably going to be easier to buy another year of windows 10 updates, followed by an upgrade forcing next year.
That or when all my stuff stops responding then who knows.
On the other end of the scale that power box for round 2k is at 1600 bucks.
And while I will need to get that extra ssd for the thing it looks mighty tempting.
OOh zoom updated this week to.
I don’t expect anything till the start of july.
