Malwarebytes is talking about a new type of email with the same signs dealing with sextortion.
The image is a screenshot of an email scam. The email claims to be from a hacker who has gained access to the recipient’s computer using a spyware program called Pegasus. It threatens to release videos of the recipient unless a payment is made in Litecoin within 41 hours. The email uses intimidation tactics, stating personal information was gathered and will be released unless demands are met. It also claims that cryptocurrencies are anonymous for the transaction. As we know from reading various books, Crypto is not necessarily as anonymous as one might think. On top of that, the email is pasted within seems to have a lot of characters that Jaws is reporting as question marks.
The image contains text related to email authentication results. It shows an SPF (Sender Policy Framework) failure, indicating an email from hotmail.com was sent from an unauthorized IP address (23.230.153.230). The message was not signed (DKIM none), and DMARC also failed, suggesting issues with email security protocols or potential spoofing. When we saw them, it didn’t greet us as “hello pervert” it greeted us either by email or very genericly like “hello friend” if I remember it correctly.Regardless, the email we got was saying to pay in bitcoin at the time.
Sextortion email scammers increase their “Hello pervert” money demands is the article if you want to learn more about this.
Since I didn’t and still don’t have a web camera on my computer, I know if I get such email, especially in the middle of the night, its fake. I’m not fooled.
There’s a lot of info on how to spot this and what to do within the article.
Let’s pass this on, and we’ll be in touch!
