So it seems as though by a recent article that crossed my desk that threads is not all that accessible.
I’m not going to say whether its a good idea to go there, as its known to collect tons of information. As one response I got on Mastodon, if its available, Meta will take it.
I originally wrote to them and said:
Jared Rimer: @amaditalks From what I’ve read, its more than location they have collected at threads, correct?
They wrote back:
Mx. Amadi Lovelace: @jrimer2023 it’s *everything*. If you can imagine it, it’s trying to take it.
I believe they responded to my blog post saying that it isn’t a good idea to go. They started by saying:
Mx. Amadi Lovelace: I don’t think there’s any more obnoxious response to the #privacy implications of #Threads than “well Google already knows all that about me, and it’s not like my name or my location are some kind of secret.“ Well, that’s fine for you, but that’s not really the point. If you’re willing to trade your privacy for whatever it is you think Threads has to offer you, go do that, but people need to make the decision with some thoughtfulness which means they need to know about the issues.
You will not find me on threads, especially if accessibility is lackluster at best. Although I don’t think they read my original blog post as I sent them to my blog with the original blog about it being out.
David Goldfield posted this to an email list through the Groups.IO site and the article is titled Meta accused of ‘actively silencing disabled people,’ bans Threads and Instagram accounts demanding accessibility which should be read.
A disability influencer is quoted within the article as their threads and instagram accounts were suspended. This advocate called Meta out for launching an app that isn’t even accessible for most users.
Are they silencing the disabled? If it is supposed to replace twitter, its not working very well from this article from this list.
Meta, try again.
