Last Weeks Trivia

In 2004, Google launched a real product on April 1 that people thought was a prank. Was it … A.) Google Maps, B.) Gmail, C.) Google Earth or D.) Google Translate?

The answer: B.) Gmail launched on April Fools’ Day in 2004 with 1 GB of free storage. That seemed so outrageous at the time, lots of people assumed it was a hoax.

This week’s Trivia

Question: Since fake toll payment messages returned, what is the percentage they’re up according to the Kim Komando newsletter? A bleeping computer article indicates that scammers will tell you to pay or else lose your license. Is it A: 100% B: 250% C: 500% D: 600% or E: higher than 600%

The answer will be released next week.

TikTok, just die!

Not surprising, president Trump has extended once again the ban that was supposed to take place on Jan 19 of this year. While there may be potential buyers, how many will be willing to rewrite the application to conform to standards of collecting enough data for the app to work witout all this surveilance? We know China has baked all of this surveilance in to the app, yet when it gets in to U.S. hands, it’ll have to be redone.

Since China has to approve the deal according to the last article I read, I think the administration should do the right thing and ban it. For those who missed the latest on this ongoing saga, please read Stop fucking around … ban TikTok or don’t! for my take and a link to the latest at the time it was posted.

Also, read So … TikTok by ByteDance not following competitive bids … more as TikTok isn’t following procedures either.

To make things worse, we eventually learn that TikTok may have potential buyers. Amazon, others bidding for TikTok for more.

CoineBase at it again

Coinbase to fix eronious error message dealing with 2FA and log in attempts is the latest with this web site which claims to error out when a username and password are not correct but no two-factor is even entered. The correct response is to say that the info doesn’t match records and to try again, not that 2FA or multifactor is incorrect. Oh boy.

California Man arrested as part of 764 group

During a show airing on server 2 of this network, we spotted an article where a San Fernando man was picked up and a Michigan man gets 30 years as part of the ring leaders. California man arrested as part of “764” group is the article, let us know what you think.

Open SNP

23&Me should take a page out of this story. Just close your doors. 23&Me won’t, but open SNP will, because even though their data was mainly used for research, we know that it just isn’t safe to keep services like this running anymore. Open SNP to close at the end of the month is our article on this one.

Crocodilis

We don’t name these, so don’t yell at us. Crocodilus is new, steals crypto wallets, abuses accessibility features is the blog post and New Crocodilus malware steals Android users’ crypto wallet keys is the article itself.
